30 trees a year

i was thinking about posting what i am doing with peter, but that's not exactly news until we get more data...however, I do think that the math we did a few days ago, and have been posting in the daily announcements could use some explanation...

Of course, i wasn't one of the people that copied all of the work down, but i know the end data:we use approxametly 30 trees a year in white paper. now let's work backwards(yay...)~

1~ 29.xxxxxxxx.... trees got rounded up to 30

2~220,000sheets = 17 TREES

3~30/17 * 220k is 388,235 sheets used up in school

4~/500 is 776 reams

so that's 75ish boxs....i don't think that's right.......

SO SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE CORRECT DATA

THANKS:)
~Matt L.

p.s.
yes, this post means next to nothing, but at least i posted!

  1. i remember we order 400k sheets of white paper a year....500 sheets per ream...we use way to much paper...we need to find a better way maybe we can do what my moms job does they order recycled paper and have a company called "sherd-it" come and collect the paper then "shred-it" recycles it again... this might be more expecive but we save more trees

  2. our school does use about that amount but i believe its more im not really too sure. I'm wondering if its possible to lessen the amount of paper that we actualy use

  3. We order 80 boxes of paper per year. There are 10 reams per box and 500 sheets per ream. The math then added up to 400,000 sheets per year. We also read that 220,000 sheets = 17 trees, thus the extrapolation to approximately 30 trees per year.

We could offset some of our paper use and carbon dioxide by planting trees as well.

  4. I have noticed that not all teachers use both sides of the paper. Perhaps we can convince other teachers to do so, however the blank backs make good drawing space... Nah they should use both sides...
